The Pro Kabaddi League (also known as Vivo Pro Kabaddi for sponsorship reasons) is an Indian men’s professional Kabaddi league. It debuted in 2014 and is currently broadcast on Star Sports. Season 8 was postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but it is set to begin on December 22, 2021.
The popularity of the Kabaddi tournament at the 2006 Asian Games influenced the league’s formation. The competition’s format was influenced by the Indian Premier League. The Pro Kabaddi League operates on a franchise model, and its inaugural season was held in 2014, with eight teams each paying fees of up to US$250,000 to join.
The 2021-22 Vivo Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is the eighth season of the Pro Kabaddi League. The season began on December 22, 2021. The usual travelling caravan format was replaced by a single venue hosting all of the season’s games. The venue was originally announced as Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bangalore but was later changed to the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Convention Center in Whitefield, Bangalore.
