Mashal Sports, the organizers of the vivo Pro Kabaddi League, successfully completed 66 matches, constituting the first half of the league stage’s ongoing Season 8, in strict accordance with the league schedule, which was released in December 2021. Mashal Sports has announced the second round of the ongoing round-robin league, with 33 matches to be played from January 20th to February 4th, 2022.

The increased quality of competition among the 12 PKL Teams has been a significant feature of the 66 completed matches of PKL Season 8. The score difference at the end of matches has decreased by 42 per cent, with an average of 6 in PKL 8 versus 10 in PKL 7. Total points scored have increased by 16%, with an average of 68 points per match in PKL 8 compared to 59 in PKL 7. This has been driven by a 32% increase in raid points: 41 raid points per match in PKL 8 vs 31 in PKL 7. The league has also seen the emergence of new and exciting kabaddi talent such as Aslam Inamdar (Puneri Paltan), Arjun Deshwal (Jaipur Pink Panthers), and Mohammadreza Shadloui (Patna Pirates), among others.

The league’s organizers are confident that the next round of 33 matches will see a further improvement in the league’s competitive quality, especially since this includes the ‘rivalry week’ between PKL Teams, where the playing teams are chosen based on popular sentiments and folklore between their respective geographies. The PKL Season 8’s ‘rivalry week’ will take place from the 31st of January to the 4th of February. The upcoming 33 matches, including the rivalry week, will be followed by the penultimate round of another 33 matches, completing Season 8’s full 132-match round-robin stage. This will be followed by the play-off round and, finally, the Season 8 grand finale.
