Meetu’s Kabaddi journey

Meetu was born and raised in the Panipat district of Haryana’s Naultha village. Meetu’s first memories are of seeing his elders play Kabaddi. At the age of 8, he began playing Kabaddi in his village. This is unsurprising given that children in Haryana are introduced to sports at a young age. Meetu learned Kabaddi from instructor Sonu Jaglan, whom he regards as his guru. Meetu’s game improved over the next two to three years. Soon after, he was selected for the Haryana team for the U-14 National School Games in Madhya Pradesh. He was eligible for the Sports Authority of India trial because of the certificate he obtained at the National Games.

Meetu arrived at the SAI Bahalgarh campus and immediately began practising. With the guidance of coaches Dhrampal and Jaiveer, he improved his game at the SAI facility. Meetu had given his entire life to Kabaddi. He used to practice at the SAI centre from Monday to Friday. He used to return to Naultha on weekends to continue practising with Coach Sonu Jaglan.

He secured a spot in the team for the Junior National Kabaddi Championship 2020 after five years of intensive training at SAI. Meetu finished his first Junior National with a total of 78 raid points from seven matches. He had the appearance of being a senior member of the team. The universe, on the other hand, had other ideas.

As a result of Covid-19, all Kabaddi matches were halted. Meetu spent the next year waiting for things to calm down, and once they did, he began to compete in local tournaments. Coach Neer Gulia saw Meetu at one of the local tournaments and recruited him to the ONGC squad.

Meetu participated in the 38th All India Men Kabaddi Championship, popularly known as the Gotegoan Tournament, on behalf of ONGC. His domination persisted, and he was instrumental in ONGC’s victory in the A-grade All India event. Meetu finished the tournament as the second-best Raider with 77 raid points in 116 raids. He was only 4 points behind Naveen Kumar.
